It operates remotely from a central location in Penrose. For any queries about pay issues:

Sustainability

Waitemata DHB is committed to sustainability via interconnected sustainability target areas and initiatives to enable resource efficiency and minimize harm. These target areas are based on their potential financial, social and environmental impacts. Waitemata DHBs key sustainability target areas are:

  • Waste and Recycling
  • Energy and Emissions
  • Procurement
  • Alternate transport
  • Water
  • Built Environment

Waste Minimisation
Waste to landfill, while causing negative environmental impacts, also costs us money, whereas our recycling is lower cost and reduces our environmental impacts as well as reducing emissions. In fact, for some of our recycling programmes we even get a rebate, so minimizing the amount of waste we send to landfill is very important. In most areas you will find bins designed for different waste streams; mixed recycling (glass, plastic and cans), confidential paper recycling and standard paper recycling. If your area does not have these bins, please get in touch with the sustainability officer who will organise them for you.

Travel
Single occupancy staff travel can be an expensive way to get to work, so we have a few options that we’d recommend:
Car-pooling is a great way to save money, as well as reducing our carbon emissions, but is also a great way to meet new work colleagues and have a chat on your way to work. We also have dedicated car-pooling parking spaces at both Waitakere and North Shore Hospitals, so you don’t even need to worry about finding a car parking space. If you’re worried about being left stranded at work, don’t panic, we have a guaranteed ride home with the scheme, should you or your car-pooling buddy need to leave at different times.

Public transport is also a great way to save money and reduce the stress of getting to work. Individual public transport plans can be developed for you to ease the worry of which bus to catch and when, and we even have free trial bus passes to give away so you can give it a go.

If you’re travelling between your primary hospital site to the other (North Shore to Waitakere or Waitakere to North Shore), we have a very convenient staff shuttle bus that leaves at 10 past each hour from both sites. It’s a fast, stress free and convenient way to get
between the hospitals, so give it a go.

Cycling is a great way to keep fit and save money and we have dedicated secure bicycle cages at both main hospital sites to make sure your bike is safe.

Energy and Emissions Reductions
As with your own home, energy costs money, but also has negative impacts on the environment, so reducing wasted energy usage is important. If you’re going to be away from your computer for more than 5 minutes, just turn your screen off, it won’t slow you down when you get back and instantly saves us money. Equally, please turn off any non-essential electric devises, such as mobile phone chargers, when they aren’t being used. If you’ve finished with a meeting room and there isn’t someone else waiting to use it, flick the lights, heater or air conditioning off (if controls are available).

Sustainability Training
Many people are interested in learning more about sustainability, even going so far as becoming a Waitemata DHB sustainability champion for their areas. Whether you’re interested in learning more about Climate Change, global resource consumption, environmental impacts please contact the sustainability officer

Telephones

When you are onsite staff need to first check the Phonebook for the extension/number they require so that the operator is not searching a database that staff also have access to. Staff are encouraged to use the WDHB Phonebook to find the number they require, no longer "dial 0 and ask for the number/extension"
• Dial 1 for an outside line then the number required
• Dial the five digit extension that you want.

Emergency numbers (both hospitals)
Code orange (threat to personal safety) 777
Fire 777
Cardiac arrest 777
At sites other than North Shore or Waitakere hospitals 111

Finding the number you need
You can locate phone numbers for services and staff at Waitemata, Auckland and Counties Manukau DHBs via the StaffNet phone book. This is accessible from the homepage of the StaffNet and also via an icon at the bottom of your desktop. Numbers for healthAlliance can also be found in this way.

Voicemail
You may have a voice messaging system on your telephone. For instructions on how to use this, please follow the prompts found in the HOW-2 section on the StaffNet home page.

When you are away from Waitemata DHB sites:
• Dial 486 8920 and follow the instructions
• If you are calling on mobile, you can simply enter 4 followed by the five-digit extension you need.

Calling other Auckland DHBs
You can dial DHBs in the Auckland region internally by adding the following prefix to the extension number you are dialing. You do not need to dial 1 before these numbers.
Counties Manukau DHB: 902
Auckland DHB: 903
Waitemata DHB: 904
Auckland University: 9090
